Tax Technician Diploma

The Tax Technician Diploma is the first level of the Chartered Tax Accountants (CTA) programme. It's designed to provide a foundational understanding of tax principles, laws, and practices.


Level:Technician | Duration: 12 months

Perfect for individuals starting their tax career or professionals seeking formal tax credentials. This comprehensive programme covers fundamental taxation principles, basic tax compliance, VAT essentials, customs & excise taxes and payroll tax administration.

Upon completion of the Technician Level (Part A and Part B), the Tax Technician Diploma is awarded.

  • CTA1002: Capital Gains Tax Practice
  • CTA1003: Personal Tax Practice
  • CTA1004: Qualitative Information Techniques
  • CTA1005: Statutory Interpretation
  • CTA1006: Customs and Excise Tax Practice

 

Part B

  • CTA2001: Corporate Secretaryship
  • CTA2002: Corporate Tax Practice
  • CTA2003: Cost and Management Accounting
  • CTA2004: Legal Framework
  • CTA2005: Estate Administration Practice
  • CTA2006: Value Added Tax Practice


Skills and Knowledge:

Upon completing the Tax Technician Diploma, candidates should be able to:

  1. Apply tax laws and regulations: Understand and apply tax laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  2. Prepare and file tax returns: Prepare and file tax returns for different types of taxpayers.
  3. Maintain accurate tax records: Maintain accurate and complete tax records.
  4. Identify tax savings opportunities: Identify basic tax savings opportunities and provide advice to clients or employers.
  5. Communicate effectively: Communicate tax information effectively to clients, employers, or other stakeholders.


Career Opportunities:

The Tax Technician Diploma can lead to entry-level positions in taxation, such as:

  1. Tax Assistant: Assisting tax professionals with tax compliance, returns, and record-keeping.
  2. Tax Clerk: Preparing and filing tax returns, and maintaining tax records.
  3. Tax Coordinator: Coordinating tax-related tasks, such as tax compliance and returns.
  4. Tax Administrator: Assisting with tax administration tasks, such as maintaining tax records and ensuring compliance.


The Tax Technician Diploma provides a solid foundation for a career in taxation and can be a stepping stone to more advanced roles in taxation with further study and experience.


Entry Requirements:

  1. Minimum Qualifications: A minimum of 2 A' levels in commercials or a relevant Certificate or Diploma, or more than 5 years of work experience in Accounting/Taxation.
  2. Alternative Entry: If you don't meet the above requirements, you can also enroll through the mature entry route, which requires 5 years of working experience and being at least 30 years old.
  3. English Language Proficiency: Fluency in spoken and written English is required, with evidence provided if English is a second language.


Additional Requirements:

Registration as a Student Member: Candidates must register as a student member with ICTAZ and pay the requisite registration and subscription fees.


Fees Structure

1. Registration fees - USD$30.00 (once-off payment)

2. Annual subscription fees - USD$120.00 (payable bi-annually - January to June $60.00, July to December $60.00) 

3. Online Study Modules (compulsory) - $30.00 per module

4. Examination fees 

  • Part A - $20.00 per module
  • Part B - $30.00 per module
  • Part C - $40.00 per module
  • Part D - $50.00 per module

5. Exemption fees $20 per module

NB: Exemptions are available on Part A and Part B, and are awarded on a subject by subject basis.


By completing the Tax Technician Diploma, you'll gain a solid foundation in taxation and be able to progress to the Post-Graduate Diploma in Applied Taxation. 


Mode of Study

The Tax Technician Diploma at the Institute of Chartered Tax Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICTAZ) can be pursued through various modes of study, including:

  1. Distance Learning: ICTAZ offers distance learning options, allowing students to study at their own pace and convenience.
  2. Online Learning: ICTAZ also offers online learning options, providing students with access to course materials, lectures, and assessments through accredited online tuition providers.

NB: Registration is open throughout the year.
